On February 21, 2025, National Caregivers Day, a series of three public sculptures created by Molly Gochman were unveiled at the newly renamed Memphis Medical District Park, the former site of the racist Forrest Monument.
Transformation continues at Medical District Park with the unveiling of Monuments to Motherhood, a powerful and transformative permanent outdoor sculpture installation by New York-based artist and activist Molly Gochman. The unveiling ceremony took place in the park before an intimate crowd on National Caregivers Day.
“I grew up with monuments to violence, and I really wanted monuments to care, thinking about what we value and why caregiving is what sustains us,” Gochman said. “It’s the most essential work that we as humans practice.”
This is the first restaurant opening this year for the Memphis Medical District Collaborative, a community development group that partners with major hospitals and small businesses alike to improve the economy and strengthen community in the area.
MedHaul, a Memphis-based startup founded by Erica Plybeah, has raised nearly $7 million to date to expand its non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) platform. MedHaul was founded in the heart of the Memphis Medical District, inspired by Plybeah’s personal struggle to secure reliable transportation for her grandmother, a Type-2 diabetic with a double-leg amputation.
