In 2018, MMDC began conversations with Cleveland Street's Viet Hoa Market on a facade improvement and expansion project. After coordinating pre-development designs with Thompson Architecture, MMDC led the granting application process and facilitated between City of Memphis Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). Additionally, MMDC provided a $75K bridge loan for construction and 75-100 hours of technical assistance over this project's timeline.
This support will lead to Viet Hoa's new, welcoming entrance with a transformed facade, signage and landscaping. Construction will break ground May 2023. MMDC works collaboratively with partners to improve the Memphis Medical District — making it a more vibrant, prosperous, and equitable community for all. Since 2016, MMDC has granted $1.2M+ real estate and economic development grants, with emphasis on MWBEs. Viet Hoa Market and the project's manager All World Consulting and construction firm, Nixon Construction are MWBE.
