Last weekend, the Medical District celebrated a day dedicated to health, community, and vitality at the Morris Park Wellness Festival.
The heart of any community lies in its people, and our mission with this year’s inaugural Wellness Festival was to promote and embrace the wide variety of health resources our residents have access to around the District. Festivalgoers were able to stop by informational booths providing health screenings and consultations from our local partners and healthcare professionals.
Health education doesn't mean we can't have fun, too! Local Memphis artists Courtney Little and RunwayDJ helped keep the rhythm and grooves high all day long as the community enjoyed delicious eats from local vendors.
The festival also featured pop-up fitness classes for attendees to join throughout the day. From Yoga with Sana Yoga Studio to Zumba with David Quarles IV, these classes were great opportunities to discover different exercise routines and explore mindfulness practices that promote mental clarity.
At the heart of this festival was showcasing the various ways you can make an impact in your community. Vitalant South hosted a local Blood Drive to educate District residents on the need for a better local blood supply. The Memphis metro area's blood donations don’t meet local needs, which means hospitals rely on getting life-saving blood transfusions from blood donated in other areas of the country. By being a donor and contributing to the local blood supply, it will transform the lives of those in need from daily personal emergencies to ongoing medical needs.
As the presenting sponsor, Cigna Healthcare is dedicated to promoting wellness and improving the health of the communities we serve. We believe everyone should have access to quality healthcare and the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about their health. The Medical District Wellness Festival is a testament to this commitment, as we strive to empower those who live, work, and play in the District to take control of their well-being.
Thank you to Downtown Memphis Commission and Cigna Healthcare for making this event possible! We can’t wait to see how this festival grows and evolves in the years to come!
